Oregon Dunes: June 22, 2014

All of my roommates are gone right now for various reasons, so with nothing better to do last weekend I drove out to the coast to camp by myself for a night. I stayed at Jesse Honeyman state park, just South of Florence. When I got there on Saturday afternoon I tried hiking across the dunes to the beach, but got basically chased away by all the dune buggies and ATVs out there. It was a really weird experience. So, instead I went back to camp, made dinner and read until I fell asleep super early.

The next morning I got up at 5, before the dune-buggers were up, and made the 2 mile hike in time to see sunrise from the beach side of the dunes. I made a cup of coffee out at the beach and had about an hour to walk around and enjoy the quiet before the first family of out of shape tourists showed up on their ATVs to do donuts in the sand.

I can’t say I completely recommend that campground, but it wasn’t all bad. Sunrise from the dunes was really beautiful and it’s definitely a cushy camp ground if you’re just trying to find somewhere to go with a big group or something.
